| This is a core course for students
taking the Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health programme. This course provides knowledge at introductory
level in Physical Science that covers three different disciplines: Physics,
Chemistry and Earth Science. The first three topics on physics cover the
areas of motion, applied mechanics, and energy. The topics in chemistry focus
on elements and compounds, chemical reactions, and organic chemistry. The
last two topics cover the areas in earth sciences. |

This course
elaborates on the knowledge of engineering mechanics (statics) and provides
students the purpose of studying strength of materials with respect to
automotive design and analysis. The course introduces the students to the
concepts of engineering mechanics and the behavior of materials and structures
under various applied loads.
